9 special things in Thailand

Hi, How are you all today. I'd like to recommend you something very exotic. So I have found some information to share thinking that almost all visitors here have not known about Thailand before.
My interesting topic today is 9 special things foreigners do not know about Thailand.

1. Why Thai people have several pronouns?
Normally, English personal pronouns include "I" and "You". Likewise, Chinese pronouns are "Wo" and "Ni". However, the number of Thai personal pronouns overcome any other languages in the world including "Chan:I", "Ther:You", "Rao:We", "Kae:You", "Khaa:I", "Eng:You", "Phom:I", "Khun:You", "De-an:I", "Lon:You" and so on. You can use these pronouns depending on each particular situation and person. To illustrate, you should use 'Nhu' ,referring to you yourself, with your parents. When you refer yourself with sisters, you can adopt the word "Chan" while using "Rao" as the first personal pronoun with your friends. These are so complicated, aren't they? I just wonder how complex my ancestor's brain is to complete inventing such complex language.

2. The capital of Thailand has the longest name of all.
Most foreigners generally know the capital of Thailand as "Bangkok". You know what, actually Bangkok has its real name that is so long -Bangkok is sort of a nickname of it. The real name of Bangkok is Krungthepmahanakhon Amonrattanakosin Mahintharayutthaya Mahadilokphop Noppharatratchathaniburirom Udomratchaniwetmahasathan Amonphimanawatansathit Sakkathattiyawitsanukamprasit, in Thai:กรุงเทพมหานคร อมรรัตนโกสินทร์ มหินทรายุธยา มหาดิลกภพ นพรัตนราชธานีบูรีรมย์ อุดมราชนิเวศน์มหาสถาน อมรพิมานอวตารสถิต สักกะทัตติยวิษณุกรรมประสิทธิ์. Can you remember all of them?

3.Thai personal surname is totally long.
Why Thai people have such a long long surname? Why people in other countires own only 2-3 syllables of their surname: some are only 1 syllable. More than a half of Thai people own a long surname like 8-9 syllables or may be ten. This causes them so stressful when they have to fill their information in some application form.

4.Why Thai people type 555 referring to lol?
In Thai, the number 5 is pronounced as "Ha" so when they would like to share their humerous moment, they always type 555 as "ha ha ha". Some accidentally use 555 with their foreign friends, of course, making them seriously confused,555 (Oops!). More than that, some foreign friends may prefer this funny practice and adopting 555 in chatting online. However, Thai people can be confused themselves, for instance, one was asked how much of this gadget? Then, his partner answered 55. Actually, it is 55฿ but the questioner thought why his partner so rudely laugh.

5. Everything surrounding Thai people can be transformed to lottery numbers.
Even the tree crying out(some water leaking out of the tree), two heads of a buffalo, white watermelon, etc.,these can be analyzed to get lucky numbers. Later on, they buy lottery and hopely wait for their money back. They believe that the gods offer them some luck embedded in nature that they have to decode such thing themselves.

6. Why Thai people have weird nicknames?
Every Thai people must have their own nickname but it's not necessary for the meaning to be related to their personality or appearance. Therefore, their nicknames are so weird because they can be anything like animal (Cat, Deer, Bird, etc.), fruit (orange-Som, Apple, Pear), Number(Neung-one, Song-two,Sam-three) and so on. It is very easy For Thais to coin the babies's nickname, isn't it?

7. Thai people always pray for something in front of their home.
Thais usually pray for the holy thing in the joss house. Most foreigners find that it is very strage to respect for the bird house and wonder why they have to incense and prepare some offering food. Actually, this respectful hose is called a joss house believed as the residence of some sacred things that protect the owner. The joss house sounds astonishing for some foreigners, like David Beckham, so they bring it back to their country.

8. Before the film, Thai people need to stand on the royal anthem.
I'm quite sure that over a half of foreigners who firstly see the movie in Thai theater were very surprised of Thai standing on royal anthem before the film. Not only in the theater, but also anywhere and anytime the royal anthem is played Thai people have to stop and stand to praise the king. Thais feel strongly impressed to present their loyalty to the nation and the king.

9.Why all Thais have the king's photo on their wall.
All Thais prefer attaching the king's photos on their wall at home. Some Thais in oversea countries keep the king's pictures in their pockets. Some foreigners may ask "Do you know him personally?", of course ,not.  He is regarded as the father of all Thais.
