Muay Thai, Thai martial art

Let's talk about Thai boxing, the most famous martial art.


Muay Thai or Thai boxing is one of Thai folk sports. It is an unique martial art using strong body parts like fists, elbows, arms, shins, feet, knees and so on as a weapon to fight the enemies. It is counted as the nationally appealing and unique art of Thailand. It was a helpful fighting in Thai military in the past: to be ready for long lasting wars. The most famous and skillful boxing fighter is Naii KanomTom who always gained a victory in the ancient time, Ayuthaya era. Hence, the soldiers needed to regularly practice and improve their Muay Thai skill to win their rivals. There are a lot of Muay Thai training schools nowadays to preserve and spread such a valuable art.


Muay Thai is a very special game since the fighters need to wrap their fists with unbleached rope. Later on, the additional rule requires the fighter to put on their boxing gloves on the national competitions .


Not only men can train this amazing fighting, women can seize opportunity practicing MuayThai in order to protect herself. Therefore, they rarely worries or fear anything once they go out anywhere at night.

There are six body parts used to fight the enemies including fists, elbows, arms, feet, shins and knees. The boxers can punch, biff, kick, grind, soar to kick, stab, pierce, toss and throw and so on.

MuayThai styles and tactics.

1. Salab Fun Pla (Zigzag)


This action helps protect and avoid the opponents. In the figure, the man on the right is regarded as the white while another man on the left is the black. The white punched his opponent's face from the left while the black abruptly jerked away to the right by stepping his left leg back or move his right leg forward. Then, the black pushed his enemy's arms away. The way they moved suggests the zigzag. 

2. Paksa Wack Rang (the bird's tearing its nest)

This action is applied to shield and fight the enemy back when he wrestles and tightly catches. 
3. Java Sat Hok (Java hurling his spear)


This is used to shield the fists from the opponent and then punches back by elbow.

4. Inao daggering


This is used to shield the fists from the opponent and then fight back by knee.

5. Yok Khao Phasumane (Raising the Sumeru mountain)



This is used to avoid the opponent from a high kick and fight back by throwing him down.
